Download Ubuntu 9.10 OpenVZ Templates
As many of you know, I am a big fan of Openvz and I have helped several learn to use OpenVZ. Although you certainly may wish to make your own Ubuntu Templates, several people have asked me if I have any.
So, I am making my templates available for download =)
I updated a set of Ubuntu 9.10 OpenVZ Templates and have made them available for download.
The templates are named such that they are compatible with Proxmox (these templates will show up in the Proxmox menu).
These templates work out of the box and are up to date as of November 12, 2009. The only thing that is “missing” would be an openssh-server (I remove openssh-server from my VPS). Openssh server can be installed with apt-get if you wish.
apt-get install ssh
The templates have been generated according to this how to and include this init script (which is modified from the script provieded by Stephane Graber).
If you want only the init script, it can be downloaded from here. Simply save that file in /etc/init/ as /etc/init/openvz.conf
i386 : 32 bit VPS
ubuntu-9.10-minimal_9.10_i386.tar.gz
ubuntu-9.10-minimal_9.10_i386.tar.gz md5sum
amd64 : 64 bit VPS
ubuntu-9.10-minimal_9.10_amd64.tar.gz
ubuntu-9.10-minimal_9.10_amd64.tar.gz md5sum
To use these templates, save them in /vz/templates/cache (I always link /var/lib/vz to /vz on Debian / Ubuntu Openvz host nodes).
sudo ln -s /var/lib/vz /vz

091222 7:14:41 – mysqld got signal 6 ;
This could be because you hit a bug. It is also possible that this binary
or one of the libraries it was linked against is corrupt, improperly built,
or misconfigured. This error can also be caused by malfunctioning hardware.
We will try our best to scrape up some info that will hopefully help diagnose
the problem, but since we have already crashed, something is definitely wrong
and this may fail.
key_buffer_size=16777216
read_buffer_size=131072
max_used_connections=0
max_threads=151
threads_connected=0
It is possible that mysqld could use up to
key_buffer_size + (read_buffer_size + sort_buffer_size)*max_threads = 346497 K
bytes of memory
Hope that’s ok; if not, decrease some variables in the equation.

@Alexander ;
I believe this is a problem with either:
1. You may not have allocated sufficient memory to your openvz guest.
2. A problem with mysql :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-dfsg-5.1/+bug/444349
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1305921
I installed a test template, got the same errors, but mysql seems to be running normally (it is accepting connections).

Getting Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala working in OpenVZ…
If you’re an Ubuntu fan like me and use (or want to use) OpenVZ, you might not be too excited that the OpenVZ site doesn’t yet have the latest edition of Ubuntu, 9.10 Karmic Koala, available as a precreated template. Luckily, you can find them …

Could you help me with this error?
Comment by mike — December 31, 2009 @ 6:25 am
Mike: It appears to be a bug and I would report it on Launchpad.
I was able to “apt-get install ubuntu-desktop” without any problem.
I went through the dependencies, and I am able to apt-get install gnome-core.
So my guess is that the dependencies are somehow incorrect in the Ubuntu repositories.
Note: This suspicion is confirmed by attempting to install on a standard installation of Ubuntu (same error you are getting).

Thanks, Bodhi!
My problem was in low limit in default conf file. Thanks a lot for creating this tpl.
I see new cache templates on http://wiki.openvz.org/Download/template/precreated , but they are bugged (network).
Comment by Alexander — February 5, 2010 @ 1:09 am
@ Alexander : You are most welcome, glad you got it working.
Comment by bodhi.zazen — February 5, 2010 @ 7:47 am
Thanks for posting this template. I tried using the newly updated 9.10 template posted on the openvz wiki and couldn’t get the networking to work. This template works without a hitch.
Thanks!
Comment by Blake — February 26, 2010 @ 3:15 pm
Blake: You are most welcome. Glad the template is working for you.
I will make a template for Ubuntu 10.04 (LTS) in the near future , but probably not make it available for download until 10.04 is released.
